INJURY Report: Several Spartans listed 'Out' for opener vs. CMU
USA TODAY Sports

Just hours away from Michigan State football's season-opener against Central Michigan, the Spartans released an 'availability report' per the new Big Ten Conference rules.

Several MSU players were included in the report, most notably starting center Nick Samac and rotational running back Jaren Mangham, both of whom are listed as 'Questionable'.

Samac has been dealing with an upper body injury through most of fall camp, and indicated his left shoulder area when asked by reporters roughly two weeks ago. The redshirt senior also said he expected to be ready for Week 1's game against CMU, so we'll see if Samac is able to get on the field at all tonight.

In addition to those two guys, eight more Spartans were listed as 'Out' against the Chippewas — linebackers Darius Snow, Ma'a Gaoteote and Harold Joiner III, defensive linemen Jarrett Jackson and Alex VanSumeren, offensive linemen Stanton Ramil and Gavin Brocious and defensive back Semar Melvin.

Ramil announced on Twitter earlier this week that he had suffered a right knee injury which required surgery. While no official announcement has been made on his 2023 season, it seems likely that Ramil will be sidelined for a considerable amount of time.

Michigan State is a 14-point favorite over Central Michigan. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with FS1 carrying the television broadcast.
